Detailed guide
The brokerage calculator estimates the friction between a trade’s gross and net profit or loss. It combines editable broker charges with segment-specific NSE transaction charges, SEBI turnover fees, securities transaction tax, stamp duty and GST using the displayed update date.
Buy turnover is quantity multiplied by buy price, and sell turnover is quantity multiplied by sell price. Brokerage is entered per order and applied once to the buy and once to the sell. Exchange and SEBI charges use combined turnover; STT and stamp duty use the segment-specific taxable side and rate.
GST is applied to brokerage, exchange charges, the SEBI fee and any DP charge in this model. A DP charge is included only for an equity-delivery sell. The final net P&L is gross sell-minus-buy P&L less all estimated charges.
FormulaNet trade P&L = (sell price − buy price) × quantity − total estimated charges
The example uses ₹20 brokerage per order and a ₹18.25 DP charge for delivery. Buy-plus-sell turnover is ₹1.05 lakh and gross P&L is ₹5,000. For options, the price inputs represent premium value, matching the calculator’s segment label.
| Segment | Estimated charges | Net P&L after charges | Difference from gross P&L |
|---|---|---|---|
| Equity delivery | ₹185.16 | ₹4,814.84 | ₹185.16 |
| Equity intraday | ₹66.38 | ₹4,933.62 | ₹66.38 |
| Equity futures | ₹78.09 | ₹4,921.91 | ₹78.09 |
| Equity options — premium | ₹175.33 | ₹4,824.67 | ₹175.33 |
Exchanges, clearing corporations and brokers may round individual levies at a different stage from this page. Broker pricing can also be a percentage, a per-order cap, a subscription plan or zero brokerage for selected segments. Enter the actual per-order and DP charges shown by the broker.
The calculator models one buy order and one sell order on NSE. Multiple executions, BSE charges, exercised options, auction penalties, call-and-trade fees and other broker-specific items are outside this estimate.
Common questions
No. STT, stamp duty, exchange charges, SEBI fees, GST and possibly a DP charge can still apply even when the brokerage input is zero.
The model treats the entered DP charge as a depository debit charge on an equity-delivery sell. It is not applied to intraday or derivatives segments.
No. Enter the option premium per unit in the buy and sell price fields. STT treatment can differ when an option is exercised, which this simple buy-and-sell model does not cover.
The statutory and NSE levy configuration is labelled with its update date, currently 1 April 2026. Broker charges remain editable because they vary by plan and broker.
