Detailed guide
This FD calculator models a cumulative fixed deposit whose interest is reinvested and compounded quarterly. It shows pre-tax maturity value and interest, not the cash flow from a monthly or quarterly payout deposit.
The entered annual rate is divided across four quarters. Interest earned in one quarter is added to principal before the next quarter, so future interest is earned on a gradually larger balance.
Banks can use different compounding conventions and day-count methods. Use the deposit receipt or product disclosure for the contractual maturity amount.
FormulaMaturity value = deposit × (1 + annual rate ÷ 4)^(4 × years)
The table isolates the effect of rate changes while keeping the deposit, tenure and quarterly compounding unchanged. All figures are before tax.
| Annual rate | Maturity value | Interest earned |
|---|---|---|
| 6.50% | ₹2,76,084 | ₹76,084 |
| 7.10% | ₹2,84,349 | ₹84,349 |
| 7.50% | ₹2,89,990 | ₹89,990 |
FD interest can be taxable according to the depositor’s circumstances. TDS is not the same as final tax liability, so this calculator shows gross interest and does not try to infer an income-tax result.
RBI guidance allows banks to set premature-withdrawal penalty policies. The rate payable can be based on the period the deposit actually remained with the bank rather than the original contracted rate.
DICGC states that eligible principal and interest are insured up to ₹5 lakh per depositor per insured bank, with deposits across branches of the same bank aggregated. This is a protection limit, not a recommended maximum investment.
Common questions
No. It shows gross maturity and interest. Actual tax depends on applicable law and the depositor’s taxable income; TDS withheld by a bank may differ from final tax liability.
No. Quarterly compounding is a common cumulative-FD convention, but banks can offer different compounding or payout schedules. Match the calculator assumption with the product terms.
The bank can apply its premature-withdrawal policy, including a lower applicable rate and a disclosed penalty. The result on this page assumes the FD remains invested for the full entered tenure.
DICGC coverage for eligible deposits is capped at ₹5 lakh per depositor per insured bank, including principal and interest and aggregating branches of that bank.
