Detailed guide
This NPS calculator projects a Tier I retirement corpus from the current balance and monthly contributions, including an optional annual contribution step-up. It then splits the estimate between a lump-sum scenario and an annuity purchase to estimate monthly pension.
The current corpus and each monthly contribution earn the entered market-linked return. Contributions are assumed at the beginning of each month, and the monthly amount increases once each year by the selected step-up.
Actual NPS returns depend on asset allocation, pension-fund performance, charges and market conditions. The smooth return used here does not represent a promised NPS rate.
FormulaNext month’s corpus = (current corpus + monthly contribution) × (1 + annual return ÷ 12)
The example starts with ₹2 lakh, contributes ₹5,000 a month and raises the contribution by 10% each year. The exit illustration uses 20% of the final corpus for an annuity at an assumed 6.5% annual payout rate.
| Expected return | Projected corpus | 80% lump-sum scenario | 20% annuity corpus | Estimated monthly pension |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 8% | ₹2.62 crore | ₹2.10 crore | ₹52.39 lakh | ₹28,380 |
| 10% | ₹3.61 crore | ₹2.89 crore | ₹72.13 lakh | ₹39,072 |
| 12% | ₹5.14 crore | ₹4.11 crore | ₹1.03 crore | ₹55,641 |
PFRDA’s March 2026 All Citizen Model FAQ, read with the Exit Regulations amended on 20 July 2026, allows a normal-exit scenario with up to 80% lump sum and at least 20% annuity for accumulated pension wealth above ₹12 lakh. Smaller balances have additional options and thresholds.
Normal exit, premature exit, government-sector accounts, disability, death and subscribers joining after age 60 can follow different conditions. The allocation input is therefore a scenario tool; eligibility must be checked against the current rules for the subscriber.
The pension estimate simply divides the selected annual annuity payout across 12 months. Actual quotes depend on the annuity provider, age, payout option, return of purchase price, joint-life features and prevailing pricing.
