Detailed guide
This PPF calculator projects annual contributions over the 15-year term or a five-year extension. It uses the rate entered by the user and assumes the full annual contribution receives a full year of interest.
The model adds the annual contribution at the beginning of each year and then applies annual interest. This is a planning simplification that broadly represents depositing early enough for the full year, not a transaction-level PPF passbook calculation.
Under the PPF rules, interest eligibility is based on the lowest balance between the close of the fifth day and month-end, and interest is credited annually. The Government can revise the notified rate quarterly; the calculator holds your entered rate constant.
FormulaYear-end balance = (opening balance + annual contribution) × (1 + entered annual rate)
India Post displays 7.1% a year, compounded yearly, as of this review. Actual future rates may change, so the table is a constant-rate illustration rather than a maturity promise.
| Annual contribution | Total contributed | Estimated maturity | Estimated interest |
|---|---|---|---|
| ₹50,000 | ₹7.50 lakh | ₹13.56 lakh | ₹6.06 lakh |
| ₹1,00,000 | ₹15.00 lakh | ₹27.12 lakh | ₹12.12 lakh |

The official scheme provides for a minimum annual deposit of ₹500 and a maximum of ₹1.5 lakh in a financial year. Depositing after the fifth day of a month can change the interest-eligible balance for that month.
This page does not model monthly deposits, missed-year penalties, loans, partial withdrawals or account-specific extensions. Those features should be checked against the current scheme rules and the account provider’s records.
Common questions
The default is 7.1%, matching the India Post rate displayed at the review date. The field is editable because the Government can revise PPF rates quarterly.
The scheme uses the lowest balance between the close of the fifth day and the end of each month for interest eligibility. Depositing early in a month can therefore matter.
Yes. The period can be increased in five-year steps for projection purposes. Confirm the current extension procedure and contribution rules with the account provider.
No. It is correct for the entered constant rate and the calculator’s deposit-timing assumption. Actual future PPF rates and transaction dates can produce a different maturity.
